English was My Favorite

What was your favorite subject in school?

Oh well my name is Mohammad Nasir. My favorite subject in school was english language lesson, and geography. With studying geography, I could imagine the world.

I learnt english, when I was in islamic primary school in a little village, Datinawong, Lamongan district, East Java, Indonesia.

I was never absent in school when the time of english lesson came. I was eager to learn, until I studied at secondary and senior high school level.

My english was enough for continuing study at English Department, at the faculty of language and letters. And I did it, until I had graduated in 1983.

You know, my mother tongue is Java Language. Before I could not speak Bahasa Indonesia, though I was born and grown up in Indonesia. More ever english language, I didn’t know.

But in school I study hard bahasa Indonesia and english. i brought my english lesson note, included pattern of english grammar any where.

For Bahasa Indonesia lesson, I practiced for writing.

Both of them- bahasa and english, eventually are very useful for my life. I have used them for working as a journalist at the biggest news paper in Indonesia. The media company up to now is still exist. Its name is Kompas Daily.

I was delightful when Kompas assigned me at the International Desk that must be responsible for all international news. So I could use my English, and then wrote in bahasa, because Kompas is the Indonesian News Paper.
